16 Named As Part of QLD Youth Sevens Squads

16 local girls have been identified and have begun training as part of the Queensland Youth Girls Sevens Squad who will compete in the National Youth Sevens Championship at Ballymore in early December.

The wider Queensland squad will be cut into three U17 sides to compete at the championships, with an under 15 squad also the be announced to take part in a exhibition at the championships.

"To have 16 girls from the Darling Downs selected into the squad is a great achievement, and is a result of the hard work that many people have put into Sevens Rugby over the past few years" commented Downs Rugby's Mitchell Simpson.

"The creation of the Elite Development Squad this year, which a number of these girls participated in, coupled with increased club and school participation opportunities has led to improved results at the State Championships and that has been reflected in our representation at the state level".

The National Champs will be a great opportunity for the local girls involved in the QLD teams, as it creates the pathway for national selection or potentially the opportunity to be scouted into one of the many AON Uni 7s programs around the country.

Stay tuned for the final team announcements ahead of the carnival.
