ARU & National Referee Associations Annual Meeting

Yesterday I met with the ARU Heads of High Performance and ARU Referees, as well as Association President Representatives from all states. There were about 16 present. I represented the Queensland Country Associations. It was an inspiring and tiring day with much discussion, debate, collaboration and new projects.

We had breakout workshop discussions on many topics including: collaboration, opportunities to centralise admin, Code of Conduct, referee exchange, coordination with junior and elite programs, RKR, Referee Coach sideline software and best practice, community engagement, and hot issues including MO abuse, referee payment, recruitment and sustainable funding. There will be work groups formed on outcome projects.

This workshop will be followed by a QLD Referee Coach High Performance Workshop on 8 July and the QLD Referee Assoc Meeting on 9 July. I've invited National Referee Manager Scott Young to join us for a DDRRA mid-season breakfast on 15 July.

In summary, it was absolutely inspiring and as well as providing many learnings for the DDRRA, we now have a strong network across the nation.

This season in the DDRRA we have reset and relaunched ourselves with strong numbers, an engaging committee, strong sponsors, improved development and a new level of accountability. Forums like the above enable us to strive for further step-change to achieve the best standards, enjoyable refereeing and rugby community engagement we can.
