Round 4 | Game of the Round Preview

Round four has quickly come round after Easter, and two of the competitions heavy weights in the Dalby Wheatmen and Toowoomba Rangers will face off in this weekend’s game of the round.

We are yet to see the full capacity of the Rangers side in 2017, with a bye in round 1 and big wins against UQ Gatton and Roma, the Bulls are yet to be tested this year. This will likely change this weekend when they take on the defending premiers in Dalby.

We also haven’t seen the best of Dalby this year, with large victories over Condamine and UQ Gatton and a loss to Goondiwindi last year’s grand final rematch, the Wheatmen may not have found their full stride yet. There is no doubt in front of their home crowd and against arch rivals Rangers, Dalby will lift their game to the next level.

There will be plenty of exciting match ups across the park, but none better than between flankers Luke Johnston (Rangers) and John Moloney (Dalby). Both find themselves playing either side of the scrum for the Darling Downs senior representative side, and have played a lot of Rugby together over the past few years. Both Johnston and Moloney are quick, mobile and dangerous at the breakdowns and whichever player can get the better of their opponent will go a long way to controlling the momentum for their team.

The last time these two teams met was in Round 14 last year with the Dalby side taking a gruelling 13-3 win at home, and these two have played in some great matches in recent times, most notably the 2014 Grand Final.

Whilst much has changed over the past few years, one thing is certain is tomorrow’s game will be a blockbuster, and if you can make it to John Ritter Oval it will be no doubt worth your while.

The B Grade is also set to be a blockbuster, with the 2016 Grand Final rematch likely to be a fiery affair. Whilst both sides have a number of new faces, Dalby will be hungry to exact revenge after the heartbreaking extra time defeat, whilst the Rangers side will be looking to get some runs on the board for their title defence as this will be their first game of the season.

All the action will kick off with C Grade at 12.15pm with the main game at 3pm.
