Round 15 Rugby Review

The Wagners Wellcamp Risdon Cup was radiating with excitement over the weekend as teams hit the final leg hard and fast in hopes of finishing in the top spot of the ladder leading into the Finals Series. Riddles Oval in Goondiwindi was on fire as the Ladies Day clash between Toowoomba Rangers and the Emus ended in a 17 point draw after 80 minutes of gruelling and gritty Rugby. Highfields Redbacks, on their home ground, put USQ Saints to the test only failing in match fitness which the Saints took advantage of to streak away in the second half finishing 31-14. Toowoomba Bears travelled out to the Ants Nest to take on the Roma Echidnas seeing the Bears head home 48-12 winners while the Condamine Cods put on a show against UQ Gatton Black Pigs with a 62-7 win.

The B Grade competition match between Goondiwindi Emus and Toowoomba Rangers was won on the goal kicking ability of Sebastian Wilson who kicked 3 penalty goals which put their side ahead 21-12. St George hosted a travelling USQ Saints side who put up a fight, but were unable to break the Frillnecks stone wall defence going down 29 points to 7. Condamine Cods ventured to Warwick to take on the Water Rats proving to be a tough and well fought out game ending in a close 20-26 lead by the Cods.

Goondiwindi Emus vs Toowoomba Rangers C Grade match played very similar to their A Grade counterparts making for a tight and even encounter with the Emus slipping up in discipline giving the Rangers a penalty goal opportunity ending successful for a 8-7 victory. UQ Gatton hosted the Chinchilla River Rats for their C Grade clash where the Black Pigs pushed the intensity to streak away for a 26-15 win.
