Super Saturday 1 Preview | Goondiwindi Emus vs Toowoomba Rangers

Goondiwindi Emus vs Toowoomba Rangers

In what will be the main event of Super Saturday 1, Goondiwindi Emus will be host to the Toowoomba Rangers in an epic clash to see who will take on the mighty Dalby Wheatmen next week. These two sides last meeting was only in Round 15 which after 80 minutes of gruelling Rugby ended in a 17 point draw. These sides will be looking to improve their game and secure a victory in Super Saturday 1. Rangers are coming off a convincing win over the Cods last week and will aim to keep their momentum rolling against the Emus. Goondiwindi are also coming off a considerable win over USQ Saints. This match will be an exciting decider of who will take on the leading Dalby Wheatmen next week!

Goondwindi Emus are full of exceptional talent with 4 Queensland Country Heelers representatives featuring in their line-up. Sam Tweedy and Lachlan Tulloch will be the rampaging forwards leading this pack onto the field to take control. Will Gilbert will be back in action at halfback to direct the traffic between the forwards and backs having Pierce Saunders managing the backline at #10. On the wings will be the reliable combination of Tom & Sam Jobling who blister down the sideline at every opportunity. Captain Michael Jamieson and Heeler representative Harry Hawker will be the centres bringing years of experience between them and the combinations of strength and agility to break the defensive line. Goondiwindi Emus will be looking to make the Grand Final journey once again and will give Rangers no mercy.

The Toowoomba Rangers line up is full of veteran experience itself and the speed and strength of the squad were able to halt the Emus once this year already. Captain, Matthew Lyons brings a wealth of experience to this squad and is a leader among the pack. Running at flyhalf, Lyons will have the formidable Bradley Rigby at #9 running the show. The second row combination of Kieran Wagstaff and Nick Leggat will be looking to make most of the ball carries in attack and provide the brick wall in defence. Rangers will be missing regular fullback and leading try scorer of the Downs, Lachie Sperling and Tom Caskey will take his place to be the reliable hands under the ball at the back. The Rangers squad will be relentless in attack and defence this weekend and hungry to keep their Finals campaign alive.

This showdown will take place at 3:30pm on Riddles Oval in front of a monstrous crowd of supporters!
