Become a Referee

The Darling Downs Rugby Referees Association (DDRRA) appoints match officials to all matches run by Downs Rugby for representative, teenage and senior competition games and school and junior unions. Benefits of association membership include:

  • Training, coaching and networking;
  • Access to regular educational seminars; 
  • Increased access to information regarding officiating and;
  • Notification of law changes
To obtain your accreditation you will need to complete the Referee Level 1 (Foundation) course. Access to register yourself in a course can be found here - ARU RUGBY LEARNING CENTRE -  this course includes logic of;
  • Law
  • Tactics
  • Techniques
  • Referee Management
  • Smart Rugby Accreditation is also included in this 
After this has been completed, the DDRRA will review your match performance for development purposes and once registered you will be appointed to your duties.

  1. Your regional referee association will review your match performance for development purposes.
  2. Once you are registered as a referee you may act as an Assistant Referee and report on game incidents.
  3. All referees are required to have a Blue Card or be exempt in terms of Queensland Government Legislation.
